iPod’s Fast Start Guide For The New User
Apple Computer Inc. released a new guide to assist new iPod users with their new iPod. This new guide has four sections to help the new iPod user become more familiar.
Here are the four sections and their descriptions;
1) Install the iPod Software First
Before you connect your iPod to your computer or use it, you must install the iPod Software that comes with your iPod (find the CD in your iPod box). The iPod Software installer will walk you through the installation process and help you set up your iPod with iTunes. Just insert the CD in your computer’s disc drive and double-click the iPod CD icon to start.
2) Connect and Set Up Your iPod
After installing the software, an Assistant opens and asks you to connect your iPod for set up (if you’ve previously set up a different iPod on the same computer, the Assistant may not automatically appear—just connect your new iPod to summon the Assistant). Be sure that you connect your iPod to a high-power USB port (or FireWire if that’s what your iPod features)—one that’s located directly on your computer—to ensure that your computer charges your iPod battery. (If your computer doesn’t seem to recognize your connected iPod, wait about 30 minutes to allow the iPod battery to charge before going further.) The Assistant will then walk you through the set up process—if you want iTunes to automatically copy songs to your iPod, keep the “Automatically update songs on my iPod” checkbox selected; if you’d rather choose what to add, deselect this checkbox.
3) Fill Your iPod (and iTunes) with Music
Once you finish the set up, iTunes opens and either automatically starts filling your iPod with music from your iTunes library if you set iTunes to automatically update your iPod, or allows you to now pick and choose what music, videos (if you have a Fifth Generation iPod), audiobooks, and podcasts to add if you opted to manually manage music on your iPod. To manually add content, simply drag any file from your iTunes library or playlist to your iPod icon in the iTunes Source list. If you’re using iTunes for the very first time, you’ll need to add some music to iTunes first, such as songs from your own CDs or music already on your hard drive.
4) Disconnect and Enjoy
Once you’ve got your music, audiobooks, videos, and what have you on your iPod, you’re ready to rock. If you see an “OK to Disconnect” message on your iPod, simply disconnect it from your computer. If you see a “Do Not Disconnect” message, click the eject icon that appears next to your iPod icon in the iTunes Source list and then disconnect your iPod from your computer when you see the “OK to Disconnect” message. And don’t forget to check out iPod 101 to learn everything about your new iPod and iTunes.
